2019 Chevrolet Trax vs 2019 Ford Escape
The 2019 Chevrolet Trax is a subcompact crossover that seats five. The Trax gives you the best of both worlds: the utility of a crossover combined with carlike handling. Getting around the streets of the city is no problem for the Trax, and it can park easily in tight parking spaces. Customers of the Chevrolet dealer in Moscow like the Trax’s comfortable seats and outstanding visibility, as well as its economical price.
The 2019 Ford Escape is a small crossover that competes with the Chevrolet Trax. If you’ve been thinking of buying either of these vehicles, you’ll want to read our comparison, where we examine both vehicles side by side to see which one comes out the winner.
Price
The 2019 Chevrolet Trax is less expensive than the 2019 Ford Escape. The starting manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) for the 2019 Trax is $21,300, while the MSRP of the 2019 Escape starts at $24,105. This is a significant difference in price. Note that the MSRP isn’t the price you’ll pay at a dealership like Moscow Chevrolet. We use it here as a way to compare the two vehicles.
Fuel Economy
The Trax gets better fuel economy than the Escape. EPA-estimated fuel economy for the Trax’s 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine is rated at 25 mpg city/33 mpg highway with front-wheel drive and 24 mpg city/30 mpg highway with all-wheel drive. The Escape has three different engines on offer, all of which are less fuel-efficient than the Trax’s four-banger. The Escape’s most fuel-efficient engine is its turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder unit, which only gets 23 mpg city/30 mpg highway with front-wheel drive and 22 mpg city/28 mpg highway with all-wheel drive.
Dimensions
The Chevrolet Trax is much narrower than the Ford Escape. This means the Trax will be easier to park in a crowded parking lot than the Escape. And because the Trax is slimmer, there’s less chance it will receive door dings from another vehicle.
Handling
The 2019 Chevrolet Trax has a smaller turning radius than the 2019 Ford Escape, so it will be much easier for drivers to maneuver around tight spaces in the Trax than in the Escape.
Comfort and Convenience
Power-adjustable driver seats are standard on all Chevrolet Trax models. If you’d like power-adjustable seats on the Ford Escape, you’ll need to upgrade to the SE trim level.
Safety
Safety is an important consideration when you’re buying a new vehicle. The 2019 Chevrolet Trax comes with rear side airbags, something that’s not available on the Escape. In IIHS testing, the Trax received the highest marks of Good in all crash tests, with the exception of the next-highest score of Acceptable in passenger-side small overlap front testing. The Ford Escape received four Good scores, a score of Acceptable in small overlap front driver-side testing, and the worst score of Poor in small overlap front passenger-side tests. Furthermore, in NHSTA testing, the Trax received five-out-of-five stars overall, with five stars for front passenger side protection. The Escape received just four stars in front passenger side tests.
In the End
The 2019 Chevrolet Trax and the 2019 Ford Escape are both excellent vehicles, but when you compare important characteristics of both crossovers, it’s clear that the Trax emerges as the winner.
